Developer Alexander A. Zakharchenko came up with The Numismatist's Safe for all the numismatists out there who want an easy way of managing their collection of coins. The application lets you create a database for all your coins and the nice thing is that there’s a wealth of info you can add about each coin in the collection. You can export the database, print it out, and easily manage it.

The size of The Numismatist's Safe installation file is only 3.2MB, meaning you won’t spend much time on the download. You won’t spend much time on installing the application either, not when you’re guided through the process by a simple setup wizard. You can install The Numismatist's Safe on anything from Windows 98 up to Windows 7.

When you launch the application you are presented with a Collections prompt that asks you to create a new or open an existing collection. You can choose where the collection will be stored, you can name the collection, and you can choose to password protect the collection.

The Numismatist's Safe features a customizable multi-pane interface that offers a quick look at the info you entered about a coin. If you added images, they’re displayed in the two panes to the left (one for the coin’s two sides). The data you entered about the coin is displayed in the pane in the lower left hand side; there are tabs for the various info categories you entered. All the coins from your collection are displayed in a pane in the middle of the interface. At the top you have shortcuts to easily access the application’s functions.

Adding a coin to the collection is done via the New Record window that shows up when you click on the Add Record button. The tabs on this window correspond to all the info you can add about the coin. From the Images tab you can add images of the coin. In the Notes tab you can write down any note you want. In the Description tab you can enter a lot of details about the coin. The nice thing is that you can add a lot of info about a coin and that info is nicely structured into categories.

Once you’re done adding a coin, you will notice that it is displayed on the application’s interface. Click it to view more info about it, double click it to edit the info you added. For those who have a large collection of coins, the developer fitted the application with a handy search function and with the option to filter coins by their characteristics.

Speaking about large collections, with a registered version of The Numismatist's Safe you can add as many coins as you want to your collection. You can’t do the same with the trial version which is free to use for a period of 30 days. The trial is limited to 20 coins in 2 collections. Purchase a license to get rid of this limitation.

The Numismatist's Safe is a very useful application for anyone who has a large collection of coins.

Pros

The Numismatist's Safe works with any Windows edition from Windows 98 onward. The application features a customizable, easy to figure out interface. Create as many collections as you want, add info on as many coins as you want. Print out reports, export reports, import data. Handy filter and search function. Comes with a built-in image viewer.

Cons

The 30-day trial is limited to 20 coins in 2 collections.
